About

I created Ronnies Blog to post information that will help both Employers and Employees in these tough economic times. I am a retired Captain of a mid-size police department in west central Florida. For the last 15+ years of my career my role was as a commander with management responsibilities. My areas of expertise include Budgeting, Human Resources, Information Technology Management, Purchasing, Policy Creation, Records Management, Employee Discipline, Media Relations etc. I was also involved closely with our legal system, both criminal and civil, working with a host of attorneys that represented the City. I managed the police department's IT Department as well as the IT Department for the entire City. I was second in command at the police department and worked directly for the City Manager when managing the City's IT Department.

After I retired, I discovered that these skills are not common in most managers. The private sector typically has narrow areas of responsibility, whereas government tends to assign multiple responsibilities to their managers. I was surprised at how varied and in depth my knowledge is.

With the economy still struggling and unemployment at more than 9% nationally, I saw a need to use my knowledge to help our struggling workforce. I wrote a book titled A Guide to Getting a Job Interview to teach applicants how to write a resume that will be noticed by an employer. It is a step by step guide. Your resume is likely your only contact with an employer. You need to show that you meet their needs if you are going to stand out.

On this Blog, I try to post information that is informative. It is mostly about employment issue, but sometimes I can't help myself and veer in another direction. When that happens, please forgive my departure from the norm, after all, it is my Blog and I should have some creative license when it comes to content.

I hope you enjoy the content and look forward to reading some of your comments.
